“I see collage as a journey for the eyes, pictures of segmented cultures from today’s fragmented society. Each collage illustrates for me a longing for escape from the current political and world climate. I prefer to be in my own worldly climate, so I create my art to take me there.
By layering images over each other, sometimes taking away and layering again, I can create something beautiful and mysterious from something that may have started off mundane.”
Jan prefers to be in her own world by creating her art to take her there. All of Jans work is original, never a duplication, and after completing each piece she moves on to another episode in the life of her art. By layering images over each other, sometimes taking away and layering again, she creates something beautiful and mysterious out of something that may have started off mundane. Jan loves tribal history, Native American folklore, Mexican and Pre-Colombian art and sculpture. She has also worked with many mediums including etching, lithography, ceramics, painting and sculpture. All of these mediums have inspired her current collage totems, wall sculptures and paintings.
